Can you give an example of what people are copying? Is it similar interests and things like that, or word for word plagiarism?

Not OP but I can't count the number of times a PB I pick up is suddenly everywhere or random people adopt my character's speech mannerisms. My friends have had their character concepts copied even using the same PBs and in worst cases straight up plagiarized. Some people just suck.

It's awkward and ruins the feel of a community being something organic as a social media hub these residents utilize the way old people like to use Facebook. I had no idea how little people read until recently when I posted very specific DWs and people commented offering me basically anything but what I was asking for in the paragraphs of text I posted. I assume because I had an icon of a guy, but THE TEXT WAS THERE.

This is only half related but I once accidentally did the equivalent of naming my Matthew Perry PB Chandler because I didn't watch the Friends equivalent that the PB was famous for but I liked their face for my character. It was a complete coincidence, and the way I found out I did it was being dragged to hell by anons. I was called unoriginal and uncreative and accused of copying the show, I had my username namedropped as the reason why PB sucked now, and I got anonymous PMs telling me I was worthless and should quit RP if I couldn't even think up a name by myself. This was so many years ago, but to this day I still anxiously scroll IMDB for every PB I use before picking a name because I was bullied so fucking hard over what was just an embarrassing coincidence. But anons always assume the worst of people's intentions, seem to salivate over the idea of getting to call someone an unoriginal piece of shit, and never think anything is a coincidence.

Someone in pbads once came into my post to accuse me of copying their character when it was a character I had resurrected from a comm that had died over a year before. But I have also had someone lift entire sections of my bios for characters, multiple times, in faux comms. I guess what I'm saying is both things can be true!
