When it happens, it makes the person being copied feel like shit and shut down making the problem even worse because no one wants to post or interact to feel like they're providing someone else with things to be copied.

I feel you, anon. It isn't always noticeable unless you're on the receiving end, but when you know, you KNOW, and you become hyper-aware that you're being watched. I never want to be someone who thinks they own a certain concept, but when you have these people shamelessly using your icons while taking details from your character and storyline, it really sucks to see. I just wish there were better boundaries here, like take inspiration where you want, but can we be less weird about it?

This is it. There's a big difference between liking what they see and wanting to use it for their own inspiration or even deciding to use the same PB for their own purposes and maybe they use some of the same icons, but when they upload all your icons, give them the same small personal details, and act like they came up with this on their own and you're the weird one for glancing at it all and catching them in the act, it's crap. They do it because we can't physically stop them and for every person who will call them out or not interact with their carbon copy on principle, there are dozens who don't care so there is no incentive for them to stop doing these shitty things.

That's why I try to ignore it as much as possible, but it's hard not to feel like it's malicious and targeted. It's just downright creepy sometimes and that's what I hate most. Some random person latching onto you when you're just minding your own business is always going to be weird and uncomfortable.
