Oppenheimer wasn't amazing. Did you all know Jean Tatlock was a lesbian and she died because she was a lesbian in an era of fascism, and she was studying Freud who believed homosexuality was a mental defect that needed to be "re-educated" out of women. Nolan decided to erase that, make an unnecessary and weird link from her nudity and his orgasming while reading THE death quote to the detonation of Gadget. It completely left out all the NATIVES involved in the mining and refinement of the plutonium/uranium required for all of the nuclear testing that was done. Nolan left out the part where the government intentionally lied about the effects of radiation and 95% of the rez-based work force ultimately died from cancer or outright radiation poisoning AND they brought the radiation home on their skin and clothes to their families who all got sick too. They left out the part where the Trinity test itself took place where a village of natives had been living. They were displaced and then forced to work in the mines. They left out how Oppenheimer himself chose the site because all it had were "cows and Mexicans" and neither of those things were important to him. They left out how bombing Japan less than a month later wasn't a military strategy or necessary to end the war, they only did it to intimidate the rest of the world. The whole movie is Nolan being the whitest straightest dude alive telling a story that should be told by its very not-white victims.
