I will never forget the girl I went to high school with who came on the first day one year with a very slightly different haircut and started claiming she was not Julie, she was a foreign exchange student from France who had traded places with Julie.

Another Julie story

Julie actually did go to France in middle school or elementary school or something with her family, completely unrelated to this alleged exchange student ordeal. Our senior year, I was a ✨ peer mediation ambassador ✨ which meant that if people had a fight that wasn't serious enough to involve the principal, I had to take them into an empty classroom and go through a worksheet with them to resolve their hurt feelings.

One day, I got called into the office and Julie was crying while another of our classmates sat next to her and I was told I had to go ✨ peer mediate their fight ✨ so we went in to the classroom and I said "Julie, can you tell me why you're crying?" And Julie said "I wrote my personal essay for 3rd period about the time I went to France. Tyler raised his hand at the end and said 'was this about your family vacation when you were a kid or was it about last year when you were an exchange student?' and everyone laughed." And I had to sit there and fill out the worksheet and try not to cry laughing at how good that joke was.
