I did notice that too. I'm not sure if I'm ready to jump into Jcink RP, it's a lot to navigate and it really does seem like a completely different culture to learn, but maybe one day.

I got interested last week and am jumping in feet first. They give you time to apply and build your character, plus usually have the rules and expectations clearly laid out. It's definitely different, but it only took me a couple of days and rereading all the information to get the hang of it. If you do start, I wish you luck!

Do they use PBs/faceclaims the way they do on IJ?

The forum I joined is a PB community, so yes!

Not who you've been responding to, but DW to know which one you joined.

That one looks like it'd be a great transition from IJ because it's clinging to some older JCink trends like using a shipper vs. a profile application. I genuinely hope you have an amazing time!

Yes, it really feels like a good in-between, but still very different. Thank you, anon!

Not that anon but what's the difference between a shipper and a profile application?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-23 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm only speaking from a PB/SOL or sandbox site POV because I'm a weenie when it comes to stepping out of my comfort zone, but forums used to have a mini profile (basics about your character, navigated to by clicking on the character's name next to a post) and their first post on the site would be a shipper, which functions as an application to the site/gives the admins the information they need to sort your character into member groups/gives the other writers on site a jumping-off place. Typically, it's done in sections, Platonic/Romantic/Other. Writers can leave posts on a shipper to plot. Newer (or newer styled) sites have incorporated the shipper into the profiles themselves, as most people plot via DM or specific channels in a site's discord server. They usually provide coding to dress up the profile in whatever way you'd like, whether that's aesthetics ("3 am walks / cortados / scuffed shoes / leaving you on read") or images or a cool freeform like this anon did!

I'm the anon from above and Small Town Famous does the mini-profile + shipper application with custom code, so it's really a nice mix!
